BIO
I am a hard worker when it comes to things I have to do and an obsessively focused worker when it comes to things I love to do.
I love playing with sound.Synthesizers and electronics fascinated me as a child and that drive to explore sound has only intensified with age.Fable was the name of the math-metal/grind core band that I played synthesizers, guitar, and wrote songs for.We put out two records out on an independent record label, and played nearly one hundred shows, including a few mini-tours by the time we were 16.
Right now I have a solo project writing noisy yet melodic electronic music.Brian Eno, Aphex Twin, Chris Clark, The Locust, Fleetwood Mac, ELO, and the Silver Apples are some of the artists who have really pushed me want to succeed as an artist and mixing engineer. Most of the music I really feel close to is the idea and result of a great sounding mix shaping the song itself.
My good friend David Vandervelde, who is a solo folk/rock artist on Secretly Canadian, has encouraged my musical experiments and taught me the more analog and traditional side of things. However, since I am working by using analog synths/drum machines, chopping up samples of me smacking things on walks through Wicker Park, and even using gear I've modified or made myself, my mixes can get ugly and unnatural very quickly.
I want the objective knowledge the pros have. My goal right now is to develop my ears to know how loud to boost frequencies and where I should cut them no matter what sound I'm working with. Since my sound sources are all over the place, it's hard to learn the big picture and nail the sound that the pros know so well.My knowledge of music gear and what it does is very extensive, so I'll hardly ever point and ask, "what's this thing?" I've even built some of my own custom filters and effects that have no names.
If my mentor were to show me something subtle he had done to a sound my ears would pick it up.I have excellent ears, they just need formal training. I am very down to earth and get along with just about everybody I meet, so I'd like very much to be trained by someone talented and knowledgeable who would enjoy feeding my hunger to learn everything about mixing and mastering.

Hey guys,
Sorry for not keeping in touch. I talked to Jason finally and it looks like this will work out well.
He is very easygoing and takes things at his own pace. In the beginning of May he wants me to call so I can come in and help him solder and get the studio wired up. He said we can then take it from there, and since we get along already think things should be smooth.
I'll let you know the dates and specifics once I call him again.
Thanks, Jonathan Kleyn

Hello,
Sorry for not keeping you all up to date.
I've been busy working with Jason. He is having me assist him with live sound and also training me in the studio. I've been beyond busy, and it's good.
If you have any questions just ask.
Thanks, Jonathan

Hey guys, we haven't talked in awhile so I figured I'd give an update.
Things are well, I'm doing live sound for a jazz band and getting paid.
Also I'm now on staff at Boocoo Recording Studio as the Assistant Engineer!
Thanks,
Jonathan
